ADVANCING THE PROFESSION 2010

CEP'S IN ACTION

ABCEP is looking for digital photos/images of our members in action.

This is your chance to share your professional experiences with other CEPs and environmental professionals. Digital images representing CEP's at work, projects underway or examples of environmental restoration and community involvement are excellent examples of how CEP's advance the environmental profession.

ABCEP 2010 COMMITTEES

ABCEP has developed a new committee structure to support the implementation of the 2010-2015 Strategic Plan. We are soliciting participaton from our CEP membership. Committees are organized into four areas:

  • Communication/Recognition
  • Partnerships/Alliances
  • Member Services
  • Certification Review Board

CERTIFIED ENVIRONMENTAL PROFESSIONAL

For the last 30 years the Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) designation has been awarded to senior managers and other qualified individuals as a way to demonstrate their professional skills and high standard of conduct.

The CEP designation is a national symbol of excellence, and says to employers, clients, colleagues and the public that an individual is a knowledgeable, experienced, and dedicated professional.

The CEP is awarded after a comprehensive review of their background, their abilities, and their knowledge. Most CEPs have at least ten years of experience in the field.

ABCEP is a Member Board of the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB); ABCEPs Certification Program is fully accredited by the CESB.

CEP certification exceeds the requirements of the USEPA's definition of Environmental Professional (EP) and conforms to ASTM's requirements for conducting Phase I Environmental Site Evaluations.  A side by side comparison is provided.

USEPA CRITERIA FOR EP DESIGNATION

ABCEP CRITERIA FOR CERTIFICATION

Baccalaureate or Higher Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a discipline of engineering or science.

5 years of full-time relevant experience

9 years of full-time relevant experience with 5 years in a supervisory capacity

Requirement to remain current in the field

Certification maintenance requires 40 hours of maintenance points of relevant environmental activities.
